Fly flags at half-staff to honor COVID-19 victims

To honor the more than 1 million Americans who have died of COVID-19, USPS facilities should fly flags at half-staff until May 16.

President Joe Biden has ordered U.S. flags flown at half-staff to honor the more than 1 million Americans who have died of COVID-19.

Flags should be flown at half-staff until May 16 at sunset.

Flags are also to be flown at half-staff on Sunday, May 15, in observance of Peace Officers Memorial Day, which honors police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

To fly the flag at half-staff, hoist the flag to the peak for an instant and then lower it to the half-staff position. The flag should be raised to the peak again before it’s lowered for the day.

The USPS Administrative Support Manual has additional guidelines on U.S. flag display and maintenance.
