Community service brings this employee contentment

Tammy Braley kayaks on the Coal River, which she is helping to restore and protect.

Tammy Braley, a complaints and inquiry clerk at the Charleston, WV, Post Office, was recognized in the fall issue of The Eagle magazine for her volunteer work.

Braley lives in the nearby community of St. Albans, where she organized the Keep It Beautiful Walk, in which volunteers pick up litter, pull weeds, plant flowers and create a well-kept, welcoming environment.

She also volunteers with the Coal River Group, a nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring and protecting the Coal River watershed.

The group’s annual Tour de Coal fundraiser attracts thousands of kayakers, canoers and stand-up paddleboarders. That event and the Yak Fest, held the same weekend, bring money “into our town and to our river,” she said.

Small towns such as St. Albans call on residents to be hands-on.

“Community service is a way to positively affect your surroundings — the place you call home,” Braley said.

The Eagle is seeking seeking to feature more employees like Braley in future editions of “Spotlight.”

If you know a USPS worker who exemplifies service to the community or dedication to a cause, send an email to The_Eagle@usps.gov.
