Better together

CFC spotlights community improvement

The Combined Federal Campaign includes several charities that support community improvement across the nation.

The Combined Federal Campaign’s cause of the week is community improvement.

People of all ages have a need for safety and security, for belonging and purpose, for clean air and fresh water: That’s where the nonprofits in the “community improvement” category come in.

The charities under this umbrella provide the social and physical infrastructure for people to grow and thrive here and around the world. They include support for orphans, the elderly and LGBTQ+ youth; housing for the homeless; community development in the developing world; and other causes.

If you’re unsure of where to focus your giving in this category, the website for the campaign, also called the CFC, makes it easy:

• Under “CFC Giving System” on the homepage, choose “online charity search.”

• In the “Find A Charity” section, you’ll see “Select a Specific Category.” From there, choose “Community Improvement & Capacity Building.”

The Combined Federal Campaign is the federal government’s workplace charity drive. The latest campaign began Sept. 1 and runs through Jan. 14.

Participation in the CFC is voluntary.
