Airport action

Michelle Mindziak, a USPS sales solution expert based in Southeastern, PA, was traveling last year with colleagues for work when they faced a weather delay at the Orlando, FL, airport.

The group took the opportunity to dine at an airport restaurant, where a crisis soon erupted when a nearby toddler began choking.

As the child’s mother panicked, Mindziak leapt into action and safely performed an age-appropriate version of the Heimlich maneuver on the little girl until an obstruction was dislodged — eliciting relieved cheers from bystanders.

“If it weren’t for the storm, Michelle may not have been there to save the child,” said Strategic Account Operations Manager Elena Neely, one of Mindziak’s fellow travelers.
