Check, mates

Austin, TX, Automotive Technician Barry Smith was off duty one day recently when he made a surprising discovery during a shopping trip:

He found an endorsed $2,400 U.S. government check on the floor at a busy home improvement retailer.

When he finished his shopping, Smith drove to the addressees’ residence to return the payment.

The grateful couple offered Smith a reward, which he politely declined, saying he hoped someone would do the same thing for him.

“I am very proud of him for being an honest citizen, and I am thankful he is part of our team,” said Austin Vehicle Maintenance Facility Manager Daniel Acevedo.
