USPS Hero Cynthia Perkins

City Carrier Assistant Cynthia Perkins was delivering mail recently in Salamanca, NY, when she spotted a 2-year-old boy running toward a busy road.

When she stopped the barefoot, topless child and asked him where he lived, he would only repeat what she said.

Perkins went to several nearby houses in search of a parent or guardian, but got no answer.

Then she saw a house with a door wide open, where she found the boy’s mother, who had fallen asleep while he was napping. She was unaware he’d woken up and slipped outside.

The woman was grateful that Perkins was there to help.
