Letter Carrier Jamie Layman was recently delivering mail in Bartonville, IL, when he saw two dogs attack a girl as she was walking home from school.
Layman rushed to protect the girl, who is around 8 years old, and used repellent spray on the dogs until they ran away.
The Postal Service employee then accompanied the girl to her front door to make sure she got home safely.
The next day she left Layman a handwritten letter addressed “To: Mr. Mailman.”
“I want to say thank you for saving me,” she wrote. “If you didn’t come and help me I could have been in the hospital right now.”
