Handling crisis

Mail Handler Gary Haglund was in the cafeteria at the Minneapolis Processing and Distribution Center on a fall day when a crisis erupted.

A co-worker stood up from a table and waved for help with one hand as she grasped her neck with the other.

Haglund leapt into action and rushed to the choking woman’s aid.

He performed the Heimlich maneuver on her until an obstructing food item was dislodged.

Haglund’s co-worker, who declined further medical attention, recovered from the incident.
