Hear to help

Letter Carrier Elizabeth Toomer was recently delivering mail in a Clarion, IA, neighborhood when she heard a customer yelling for help inside his residence.

Toomer found the man in his bathroom, where he’d fallen overnight and cut himself, losing a lot of blood in the ensuing hours.

The Postal Service employee immediately called 911 and comforted the customer until emergency responders arrived.

“This gentleman lives alone, so he was very fortunate that Elizabeth heard him and helped him,” said local Acting Postmaster Reica Robson.

Employees featured in “Heroes’ Corner” also receive letters of commendation through the Postmaster General Heroes’ Program. The nomination form is available on Blue.
