Caleab Fronk, a city carrier assistant in Wayland, NY, was recently making deliveries when he learned that a local 7-year-old girl with special needs had been missing from her home for two hours.

Fronk kept an eye out for the child, who had wandered off while searching for a family cat, and he soon spotted her alongside a busy road a mile away from her neighborhood.

The Postal Service employee immediately stopped, called 911 and sheltered the girl in his postal vehicle.

Police officers and her mother soon arrived, safely drawing the incident to a close.

Employees featured in “Heroes’ Corner” also receive letters of commendation through the Postmaster General Heroes’ Program. The nomination form is available on Blue.
