Letter Carrier Kevin O’Day was delivering mail on an August day in Covington, KY, when he spotted smoke pouring from the upper floor of Grainwell, a family-owned shop specializing in custom wood products.
O’Day rushed to the scene to alert co-owner Michelle Kirn and ensure that she and three dogs got out of the building safely.
Firefighters soon arrived to battle the blaze, which closed the shop for two days.
Kirn’s sister and business partner, Melyssa, who was away at the time, told the local ABC station that O’Day’s response saved Grainwell from devastating damage.
“We’re blessed that he was just around the corner,” she said.
