Necessary Means

Kerens, TX, Rural Carrier Associate Marissa Means

Marissa Means, a rural carrier associate in Kerens, TX, was delivering mail one day last summer when she heard someone yelling for help.

She soon spotted a customer who’d fallen off his lawn mower and was bleeding profusely from multiple lacerations he’d sustained.

Means immediately called 911 and remained on the scene until emergency responders arrived.

A responder from the local fire department later contacted the Kerens Post Office, noting that the man’s wife wasn’t due home for hours and he was weakened from blood loss and heat exposure.

“You really have an amazing carrier working for you,” the responder told Officer in Charge Emily Brown. “This young lady saved this man’s life today.”
