Neighbors notice

Rural Carrier Jacqueline Tannehill was recently making deliveries in a Springfield, IL, neighborhood when she grew concerned about an older customer whose mail was piling up.

Tannehill knocked on the woman’s front door and only heard dogs barking in response.

The Postal Service employee alerted a neighbor, knowing he was also a local police officer.

Emergency responders soon checked on the customer, discovered that she had fallen and sustained a head injury, and rushed her to a hospital.

Residents throughout the neighborhood later thanked Tannehill for her attentiveness.

The customer is recovering from the incident.

Employees featured in “Heroes’ Corner” also receive letters of commendation through the Postmaster General Heroes’ Program. The nomination form is available on Blue.
