Rainfall rescue

Letter Carrier Viktor Luna was delivering mail on a stormy day last summer in Colorado Springs, CO, when he spotted a boy in trouble.

The lad had been riding his bicycle on a neighborhood street when he got caught in a downpour, falling into a gutter and struggling against rushing rainwater.

Luna hurried to the boy’s aid, helping him up and guiding him home, narrowly avoiding a severe hailstorm.

The child’s parents thanked the Postal Service employee for the rescue.

A neighbor noticed, too, and later called the local Post Office to commend Luna for ensuring the boy’s safety.

Employees featured in “Heroes’ Corner” also receive letters of commendation through the Postmaster General Heroes’ Program. The nomination form is available on Blue.
