Saving lives

Letter Carrier Timothy Martin was recently delivering mail in Hamburg, NY, when he spotted a vehicle on fire near a customer’s residence, threatening the structure.

Martin asked neighbors if the woman was at home and they said yes, so while 911 was called, he rushed inside and guided her and her dog to safety.

Emergency responders soon arrived.

Paramedics treated the woman, who has chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, with oxygen.

“Timothy’s quick thinking and actions possibly saved the customer’s life,” said local Customer Services Supervisor James Nayman. “We are extremely proud of him for his reaction and heroic act to help a member of the community.”

The woman recovered from the incident.
