Postal Service employees delivering mail in New York and Colorado recently took extra steps to ensure customers’ safety.

Rochester, NY, Letter Carrier Stacey McManus encountered a customer who had fallen outside his home and couldn’t get up. She called 911 and stayed with the man until emergency responders arrived.

Fort Morgan, CO, City Carrier Assistant Luke Deganhart also discovered a man who had fallen in his neighborhood. Deganhart called 911 for the customer, who was bleeding profusely, and stayed with him until emergency responders arrived.

East Aurora, NY, City Carrier Assistant Christopher Riley noticed smoke coming from a house. He knocked on the front door and rang the bell but got no answer, although he did see pets inside. Riley alerted his supervisor, who called 911. Firefighters extinguished the blaze in a second-floor bedroom, preventing the home from being destroyed.
