Digging out

USPS operations have resumed in most Northeast locations

Marlborough, MA, Letter Carrier Herbert Molina loads his vehicle after the winter storm.

Communities across the Northeast are digging out after this week’s nor’easter brought heavy snow, high winds and coastal flooding to the region.

The USPS Service Alerts site reports all Northeast Area processing operations and Business Mail Entry Units were operational Jan. 28. Delivery and collection have resumed where it is safe for carriers.

Information on the site is updated regularly and shared on Twitter and Facebook.

While the storm didn’t live up to expectations in New York City and other locations, it still packed a powerful punch.

Six states from eastern Long Island to New England reported more than 30 inches of snow and 70 mph winds. Three locations in Massachusetts recorded the top storm total of 36 inches.

Customers are asked to clear snow and ice from walkways and around mailboxes. Carriers who have difficulty making deliveries should notify their supervisors.
