When Kernersville, NC, Letter Carrier Linwood Thompson isn’t delivering mail, he’s delivering hope to homeless veterans.
Last year, the Army vet and his brother founded VA Sidelines, a nonprofit organization that helps homeless veterans.
“As a carrier, I’m out every day and see people in need. I felt compelled to respond,” said Thompson, who does the nonprofit work in his personal time.
VA Sidelines’ professional counselors and social workers provide clients with guidance and support.
“Our staff performs assessments at the initial visit, and then determines the appropriate course of treatment,” Thompson said.
The organization is developing a housing facility too.
“Building confidence and hope helps put the veterans on the road to success,” Thompson said.
