A recent Newsmax article highlighting 11 must-see landmarks in Washington, named the Smithsonian’s National Postal Museum No. 1.
The poll was conducted by Newsmax summer interns who were instructed to find the best of what the nation’s capital has to offer.
The article explains the museum is “for more than the avid philatelists” and that it “puts a unique twist” on transportation and history exhibits you might not see at other museums.
National Park Service guide Robert Hughes said people find the museum interesting and are surprised it houses more than just stamps. “It tells the history of our country, which is really, really good,” said Hughes.
Other notable landmarks included:
- Women in Military Service for America Memorial
- African American Civil War Memorial
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial
- DC War Memorial
The Postal Museum and other landmarks on the list were recommended by both tour guides and members of the National Park Service.
The museum is open for free admission every day from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. except Christmas.
