It’s going to be another busy year for the Postal Service.
The first new stamp of 2016, Quilled Paper Heart, will be dedicated Jan. 12 in Dallas.
Other new stamps will honor Shirley Temple, the 50th anniversary of “Star Trek” and the exploration of Pluto.
Prices for Shipping Services products will change Jan. 17, representing the first price increase in more than three years for commercial Priority Mail.
This is an election year, which means more Election Mail and Political Mail are expected. Iowa will hold the first presidential caucus Feb. 1, while congressional primaries will begin in several states in March and continue through September.
Election Day falls on Nov. 8, the latest possible date it can be held.
The National Postal Forum, the mailing and shipping industry’s largest annual conference, will be held March 20-23 in Nashville. Another major industry event, National Postal Customer Council Week, is slated for September.
This year’s Stamp Out Hunger food drive will take place May 14. National Dog Bite Prevention Week and National Mailbox Improvement Week also are expected that month.
Thanksgiving will be Nov. 24, followed by the start of the peak shipping season.
