A Postal Service program to help managers develop their leadership skills was recently honored with a prestigious award in the human resources sector.

The USPS Management Essentials for Field Leadership program received the first-place award for best leadership development program from Human Capital Management for Government (HCMG), an organization for federal human resources professionals.

The award is in HCMG’s leadership development category, which recognizes programs that help individuals strengthen their communications skills and lead employees who perform a variety of jobs.

“The Postal Service is proud to receive this award, which recognizes the team effort that has gone into making Management Essentials such a success,” said Learning and Development Director Susan McKeen.

Management Essentials, an 8-week program for newly promoted field managers, helps participants improve their performance and managerial skills.

Almost 1,000 employees have enrolled in the program since its introduction in January 2015.

The Postal Service received the award at HCMG’s recent conference near Washington, DC.
