A new video transports viewers to the recent dedication of the Star Trek stamps.
The 1-minute, 30-second clip features highlights from Star Trek: Mission New York, the three-day fan celebration where the ceremony occurred.
“For more than 50 years, ‘Star Trek’ has entertained us, engaged us and taken us on a tremendous journey, inspiring optimism and a better understanding of the American psyche,” PMG Megan J. Brennan says in the video.
She adds that “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry saw the series “as a hopeful commentary on the world, and his commentary was that humanity and society — not just technology — will evolve and transcend the problems of today.”
The video also features remarks from CBS Consumer Products Executive Vice President and General Manager Liz Kaloduer and NASA Deputy Director of Science for Communication Michelle Thaller.
The Postal Service released the stamps Sept. 2, almost 50 years to the day the original TV series debuted.
