The Postal Service is kicking into overdrive as the pace of peak season continues to pick up.

“We have tremendous momentum going into next week, which is shaping up to be the busiest of the year,” Chief Operating Officer Dave Williams said. “We know our customers are counting on us, and we’re going to deliver for them.”

USPS expects Dec. 19 will be the year’s busiest mailing day and Dec. 22 will be the busiest delivery day, but volumes are already soaring.

Since late last month, destination delivery units have received more than 100 million packages from mailers, and more than 99 percent of these parcels have been delivered on time.

Overall, USPS expects to deliver 750 million packages during the holidays, up 12 percent from last year’s volumes.

Employees are expressing pride in the organization’s efforts.

“Operations is ready for the peak season,” said Mary Ivory, a clerk at the Detroit Processing and Distribution Center. “We know how important it is to get the mail out on time for the holiday.”
