Postal employee rescues trapped customer

Sharon Schubarth and Cheyenne, WY, Letter Carrier Shaun Zimmerman

A Cheyenne, WY, letter carrier recently received praise — and doughnuts — from a customer he rescued during a storm.

Sharon Schubarth was on her way to a doctor’s appointment the day after a blizzard.

Schubarth used a walker as she carefully navigated the icy ground to get to her vehicle.

As she backed out of her driveway, the vehicle became wedged in a snow bank. Unable to open the doors, she was trapped inside.

Schubarth called for help, but her neighbors weren’t home. She then noticed Shaun Zimmerman’s postal vehicle at the end of the block.

“I knew that meant that Shaun would soon be at the house,” she said.

After hearing Schubarth’s cries for help, Zimmerman helped her get out of the car.

“He was so kind and considerate,” she said. “I gave him a big hug and he continued on with his job.”

Later, Schubarth sent doughnuts to the Post Office to treat all the carriers in honor of Zimmerman’s kindness.
