Shop smart

While the internet allows you to avoid the hustle and bustle of department stores during the holidays, online shopping can leave you vulnerable to cyberscams aimed at compromising your financial information.

To avoid becoming a victim, the CyberSafe at USPS team is offering employees these tips:

• Vary passwords. Use distinct passwords for different shopping sites.

• Avoid ads. Refrain from clicking on online advertising, which could contain malicious links. Instead, go directly to reputable retailers’ sites. Always look for https:// in the web address and the “lock” icon in the locked position.

• Scrutinize deals. Skip offers that seem too good to be true.

• Monitor purchases. Watch your credit card and bank statements for suspicious activity or purchases.

Also: Beware of phishing emails and text messages that request immediate action, contain misspellings and grammatical errors, or seek your login credentials.
