Passport awards. Jefferson City, MO, Retail Associate April Burger was recently honored by the U.S. State Department as passport acceptance agent of the year.

A panel of State Department and Department of Homeland Security representatives unanimously selected Burger from a field of 25 contestants. There are 45,000 passport agents working in more than 20 agencies throughout the nation.

Additionally, the Des Moines, IA, Post Office received special recognition from the State Department for increasing passport revenue by more than 30 percent during the past year. The office boosted revenue by hosting multiple passport fairs and scheduling passport acceptance appointments on Saturdays.

Burger and Des Moines Acting Postmaster Adam Griswold were both honored at a recent ceremony in Washington, DC.

Stamp releases. The Postal Service has announced release dates for five stamps, along with the cities where the dedication ceremonies will be held:

  • STEM Education, Friday, April 6, Washington, DC
  • Peace Rose, Saturday, April 21, Shreveport, LA
  • United States Airmail, Tuesday, May 1, Washington, DC
  • Sally Ride, Wednesday, May 23, La Jolla, CA
  • Flag Act of 1818, Saturday, June 9, Appleton, WI

Postal Bulletin. The Postal Bulletin’s March 1 issue provides an overview of USPS mail sacks, including guidelines on filling, labeling and securing them. The publication’s other highlights include recent updates to manuals, handbooks and forms.
