Scanning snapshot. The Postal Service’s national scanning rating was 97.84 percent during the week ending May 11, down from one week earlier.
Dakotas (99.17 percent) topped the districts, while Western (98.2 percent) led the areas.

Flag reminder. Armed Forces Day, which honors men and women who serve in the U.S. military, is Saturday, May 19.
Postal facilities that are open this day are required to fly the POW-MIA flag, which honors the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces held as prisoners of war or listed as missing in action.
The POW-MIA flag must fly below the U.S. flag.
In memoriam. Paul Carlin, who served as Postmaster General from 1985-1986, died last month, the Washington Post reported May 13.
Carlin began his postal career in 1969 and held senior-level positions in government relations, planning and employee and labor relations. He served as regional Postmaster General for the Eastern and Central regions before becoming the nation’s 66th Postmaster General in January 1985.
