‘Engage’ examines art of listening

The importance of listening to employees is highlighted in the latest “Engage” video.

The 4-minute segment features managers throughout Northeast Area’s Albany District discussing their communication techniques.

“We have to take the time to engage the employees and tell [them] why we’re doing it and then also share … their progress,” says Sr. Plant Manager Kevin Clark.

Mail Handler Joanne Johnson praises Clark’s approachability.

“I can tell him any of my concerns, and he will address them,” she says.

Other managers discuss the value of getting to know employees as individuals, as well as the importance of candid conversations.

“I don’t want my staff to agree with me. I want my staff to tell me the real deal — and that’s how we run the Albany District,” says District Manager Thomas Kelley.

This is the eighth video in the “Engage” series. Previous installments showcased leadership strategies in Western Area’s Dakotas District and the Confluence, PA, Post Office, where employees take pride in fostering a familial workplace.
