Leads paying off

Programs exceed $400 million at mid-year

Linda Allmendinger, a Fayetteville, AR, retail associate, submitted a sales lead recently through the Clerks Care program.

USPS employees submitted more than 45,000 sales leads that resulted in $441 million in estimated annualized postal revenue during the first six months of fiscal 2019.

The leads were submitted through six programs — Business Connect, Clerks Care, Customer Connect, Mail Handlers, Rural Reach and Submit a Lead — that have generated more than $7 billion in revenue overall since they began several years ago.

Each program allows employees to provide tips about businesses that could benefit from using USPS products and services. Business development specialists then contact the firms to explain how the Postal Service can help them.

A local retailer or restaurant looking to advertise their business or expand online are examples of great leads, said Louis DeRienzo, small-business senior sales specialist at USPS headquarters in Washington, DC.

“It only takes a moment to ask someone if they would be interested in seeing if USPS is the right fit for their business,” he said. “Gather their contact info and submit a lead.”

The current fiscal year runs from Oct. 1, 2018-Sept. 30, 2019.
