Postal Service employees across the nation are working to complete special deliveries for customers, who are expressing their appreciation.
Sawyer Hendrickson, 10, visits the Ludington, MI, Post Office throughout the holiday season to ship care packages to military members serving overseas.
She began the tradition four years ago when her brother was deployed abroad and couldn’t be home for Christmas, so Sawyer mailed him a stocking stuffed with goodies. She now ships thousands of similar packages year-round through Miss Sawyer’s Kids With A Cause, a nonprofit organization she formed with her mother.
Sawyer, whose charitable work was the subject of an “NBC Nightly News” report this month, said she appreciates how the Postal Service helps her serve veterans — something she plans to continue doing for a long time to come.
“I will help them in every single way I can for the rest of my life,” she said.
Customers are expressing appreciation for USPS in other ways, too.
Johanna Hoch, an Ocean City, NJ, resident, told the OC NJ Daily news website that she relies on the local Post Office for all her holiday mailing and shipping needs.
“I look forward to going there. It’s a fun experience. I like the Art Deco architecture and the original brass Post Office boxes,” Hoch said. “What I really like are the people who work there. They’re helpful and they remember you.”
Meanwhile, the International Postal Affairs department at USPS headquarters in Washington, DC, received a Christmas card this week from a 79-year-old resident of the United Kingdom who wanted to thank the organization for delivering decades’ worth of mail she has sent to a friend in the United States.
“We rely on you all so a big thank you,” the woman wrote.
