Who’s there?

Know the callers on your line

USPS wants employees to avoid cybersecurity risks during videoconferencing calls.

You know it’s important to protect your email, but what about your videoconferencing calls?

Platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams also present cybersecurity risks. Listeners who are unannounced could learn sensitive information, which could cause harm to the Postal Service.

Here are a few tips from the CyberSafe at USPS team to help you protect your virtual meeting calls from uninvited attendees:

• Avoid sharing conference codes. Sharing meeting passcodes violates the Postal Service’s AS-805 Information Security Policy Handbook, Section 2-2.33.

Ask first. Instead of forwarding an invite without permission from the meeting organizer, ask for the individual to be added.

Conduct a roll call. Before your meeting starts, ensure you know who’s in attendance. Never share sensitive information until you’ve removed unidentified callers.

Target your audience. Restrict the virtual meeting based on the confidentiality of the information being presented.

Disconnect your calls. End sessions via the “End Meeting” button to ensure everyone is disconnected.

Stay on the record. If you must record a meeting, add passwords before sharing and delete the recording when no longer needed.

To report a cybersecurity incident, call 866-877-7247 or send an email to CyberSafe@usps.gov. For additional cybersecurity information, check out the CyberSafe at USPS Blue and LiteBlue pages.
