Luminous visions

New stamps depict common flowers

The Sunflower Bouquet, left, and Tulips stamps will feature digital photographs of two colorful arrangements.

The Postal Service will release two special occasion stamps March 24.

The Sunflower Bouquet 2-ounce stamp is ideal for heavy letters and invitations, while the Tulips Forever stamp can be used on RSVP envelopes that are often enclosed with wedding invitations.

The Tulips stamp is also ideal for party invitations, thank-you notes and important announcements.

Ethel Kessler designed the stamps using digital photography by Harold Davis.

To create the images, Davis backlit the arrangement of flowers on a light box and made multiple photographic exposures, resulting in a luminous, transparent look.

There will be no national dedication ceremonies for the stamps, which will be available at Post Offices and usps.com.
