The Postal Service will deploy an upgraded version of the Windows 10 operating system to all ACE workstations, starting April 11.
The organization expects to complete the Windows 10 Version 21H2 deployment — which will ensure workstation compatibility with Office 365 and other Microsoft software — by May 11.
After that, the current version of the Windows operating system will no longer be supported or receive critical security updates.
In preparation, USPS will check all workstations for disk space size, hardware-specific updates, Microsoft Endpoint Client Manager status and other system requirements.
Here’s what to expect:
• The computer will restart as the first step of the upgrade.
• Users who work remotely must log in and connect to the USPS virtual private network after the initial restart.
• Once the upgrade is sent to a workstation, users will have five days to choose when to initiate installation. Make sure all power cables are plugged into the workstation or docking station.
• The upgrade can take about four hours, depending on the computer. Consider running the installation at the end of the day.
• Users can continue to work while the upgrade status bar is present.
• Users cannot use the computer during the finishing restart process, which can take up to 90 minutes.
• Before starting the upgrade installation, users should back up their computer’s files to an external storage drive or to OneDrive.
Windows 10 Version 21H2 will be supported until June 11, 2024.
