The Postal Service wants employees and contractors to follow the rules when using USPS-issued devices to conduct business abroad.
Employees and contractors must take these steps:
• Complete the CyberSafe International Traveler course (course code 2020ITEC4579SS01) before traveling.
• Request authorization for international business travel at least 21 days before the trip.
• Request access to an international virtual private network (VPN) in eAccess, and use the VPN to connect to the internet.
• Request approval in ServiceNow for international roaming service for postal-issued mobile devices.
• Use a personal hot spot on a USPS device — instead of unknown Wi-Fi networks — to connect to the internet.
Employees and contractors are not permitted to install social media or other unauthorized software on USPS-issued electronic devices.
Additionally, employees and contractors should never leave electronic devices unsecured or unattended anywhere, even in private places such as hotel rooms, and they should always keep their devices with them, never placing them in checked baggage.
While traveling abroad, employees and contractors should immediately report any loss, theft or unauthorized access to any USPS-issued devices to the Cybersecurity Operations Center by emailing CyberSafe@usps.gov and by calling the Postal Inspection Service at 877-876-2455.
USPS-issued devices must not be taken outside the United States on personal travel, as explained in the AS-805-C, Information Security Requirements for All Personnel handbook.
