A faint plea

Beech Grove, IN, Letter Carrier JoShana Williams

Letter Carrier JoShana Williams was delivering mail to a customer last winter in Beech Grove, IN, when she noticed the main door was slightly ajar — despite the frigid weather.

After hearing an unusual noise inside the house, she cocked an ear and detected the words “help me” repeated in a faint voice.

Williams opened the storm door and found the customer, 93, lying on the floor and unable to move.

The postal employee called 911, and paramedics transported the woman to the hospital.

The customer was treated for a broken hip and collar bone.
