Critical collapse

Letter Carrier Joy Cordell was recently making deliveries in an Eaton Rapids, MI, neighborhood when she saw two visibly upset children exit a house.

Cordell asked what was wrong and one replied: “My mommy has fallen and isn’t waking up.”

The Postal Service employee rushed inside and found a woman on a bathroom floor with her husband by her side, trying to rouse her.

While the couple’s son called 911, Cordell advised the man that CPR was needed.

While he performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on his wife, Cordell administered chest compressions to the woman until emergency responders arrived and took over.

She did not survive.

Employees featured in “Heroes’ Corner” also receive letters of commendation through the Postmaster General Heroes’ Program. The nomination form is available on Blue.
