Letter Carrier Darrell Thompson was recently delivering mail in a Rockville, MD, neighborhood when he detected the odor of leaking gas.
Thompson immediately alerted a resident, and the gas company was notified.
Utility workers were dispatched to the scene, where they located and repaired a faulty coupling in the gas line.
The resident later contacted the local Post Office.
“This lucky outcome was the result of Darrell’s conscientiousness, helpfulness and alertness,” the man wrote. “He prevented a major potential problem.”
